Painting
The Korean artist Miran Yang takes us on a fascinating journey in her paintings, where she explores natural phenomena with an exceptionally light-handed painting style, constantly circling around nature and natural events. Her works combine both abstract and figurative elements, immersing us in a world populated with animated objects that make her work so fantastical and captivating. Weather and natural phenomena appear as ensouled beings, imbued with a certain humanity, allowing them to be recognized and perceived as living entities. The moon frequently emerges as a protagonist in Miran Yang’s paintings. This animistic perception opens a window for viewers into a pictorial world that takes childhood memories seriously.
The exhibition title, One for the Night, One for the Day, hints at the ambivalence within Yang’s artistic exploration, which engages with recurring themes such as day and night, history and reality, as well as life and death. The motif of a fairytale-like nature expresses her deep interest in the melancholic realms of the human psyche and the concept of ambivalence. For Miran Yang, painting is another form of comprehension—a way of acting within the unconscious.
